Day 102 – Pelican Beach Resort

Pelican Beach Resort was one of first resorts in Coffs Harbour. Built during 1986, and located just to the North of Korora at Sapphire on the beach.

It was an award-winning resort in its day, was closed in April 2007 and deserted after the sale of the resort to property developers. Auctioneers sold off the majority of useful goods, but what was not sold was abandoned.

The resort was closed for almost 3 years, before it was torn down almost 2 years ago when these photos were taken, and during that time the place was a target for vandalism as can be seen here. It was quite interesting wandering the halls of the deserted building.

Sapphire Beachfront Estate is now what stands in its place. A 39 lot residential subdivision with all lots claiming to have ocean views.

  2. Only stayed there once as it was expensive. We stayed next door at Nautalis rydges resort. But went to pelican for dinner a lot. Why did it close down if it was an award winner ?? It was such a beautiful resort I remember the koi/carp pond/river that ran through the lobby and restaurant.
