Day 253 – Progress
We have progress! So adding some guar gum to the water (about 1 teaspoon per 2 litres) was getting me a more consistent drop, and also added some viscosity to the water giving a different effect when it collided.
I definitely needed to strain it more after mixing though, as quite alot of very small particles were viewable in the images, that had to be cloned out in post processing.

Fascinating! It looks like a glass mushroom. Did the red and turquoise appear naturally or did you play with it a bit?
Thanks, I was going for the mushroom look, just took me a few shots to get there. 😀 The colours come from a green gelled flash on the left, cyan gelled flash on the right, and red food colouring in the drops.
It’s lookin’ good!
Thanks Stephen. 🙂
Oh… My… Gosh… I love it! What is guar gum?
I guess I could always Google it. 🙂
Thanks so much Nicole. It’s a natural plant product used mainly as a thickening agent in food as far as I know. Just in case you were feeling lazy => http://lmgtfy.com/?q=guar+gum 😀
WOW — very nice shot
Thanks Art 🙂
That effect is bonkers! A lot of time and effort has gone into producing this photo I’m sure. Well done! 🙂
Cheers Roo. Yeah… I sometimes think I am a little crazy trying for hours to get that exact shot I have in my head… It sometimes works 😛
I can’t even imagine how much time you’re putting this project. You’ve got great patience and tons of creativity. Congrats!
Thanks Bella, I think I can push it a little further. 🙂 I might give the drops a break for a few days so I can get some sanity back though. lol
Wow! It looks sort of like a little transparent mushroom!
Thanks Rebecca. I just had an idea while re-reading your comment too, so thank you again! 😀
